Jake's Valentine gifts

This was a great idea from Mish's blog for Valentine's gifts for Jake's friends (girls), teacher, and me! Jake actually did quite a bit for this project and he did almost all of the bookmarks for the boys (to be seen in another post). He stamped the hearts, helped cut out the circles and scallops, taped everything together, and on the back wrote a bible verse (his idea!!) and his name (he had to do that 16 times... 8 for the girl bookmarks and 8 for the boy bookmarks!!).

Then, I ran them through my Xyron to laminate them.

Cards for the Kids

I made these cards for the kids for Valentine's day (better late than never!). I used cardstock and stamped my own background on Jake's card (the red one). The used PTI bitty dot paper as one strip, brown cs and another strip of red cs to stamp the sentiment. Some red stickles for bling and that was it (needs to be simple for a 6yo boy!) For the other just a simple combo of brown, pink, and red. I also used red stickles on the red heart stamp (polka dots), and used brown bitty dot paper for the strip.

The inside sentiment stamp says "Celebrating what you mean to our family."

Both card sketches are Mojo Monday sketches.

A vibrant life... gone.

A vibrant life. Cut short by cancer. Left behind is a wonderful, God-loving husband and 2 sweet young children. Yet, they will be old enough to remember their mom. And what a mom they had. She has literally touched hundreds of lives. Not too many people can say that... but the outpouring on facebook pages today (even of friends of friends that I didn't know knew her!) has blessed and amazed me. And well... she was THEIR mom!

What a blessing she must have been to them, because I haven't seen her in quite some time, yet her infectious laugh is fresh on my ears and her smile precious to my heart... and she was THEIRS. Mark's wife. Their mom. Oh, what a sweet couple. We have been blessed to know them for 10 years now.

I remember that first day she and I talked about finding the cancer. It was just like yesterday. I have now lost 2 friends my age to cancer. And, neither was breast cancer. The first died 2 days before my wedding. And, now Julie.

Can I leave you with these random thoughts today? My heart is sad and rejoicing all at the same time.

"Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid. The LORD your GOD will go with you. He will NOT leave you or forget you!" Deuteronomy 31:6

"Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of his saints...you have freed me from my chains." Ps. 116:15

Tree House Magic layout

My son loves the "Magic Tree House" series. He loves it SO much that he asked his dad to build him a rope ladder off of his playset (the rope ladder up to the magic tree house is a big deal in the stories). Well, my husband was happy to oblige! So, with a little play on words I made up the "Tree House Magic" layout. Jake was VERY excited to try it out when it was done. I used the cricut for the tree and rope that is on the denim pocket at the bottom left. In the pocket I hid some details about all of this for Jake when he is older (and might not remember).
